Real UK casinos

England outside London keeps some of the country's most enjoyable casinos, and the best of them sit a short walk from a good hotel bed. From a genuine casino-hotel by the NEC to seafront tables in Brighton, this is where a night on the felt turns into a proper weekend.

This guide reviews the best casinos across the Midlands and the South of England and ranks them out of ten. For each we weigh the same four things: the gaming floor, the stay, the atmosphere and dining, and the location and value. The scores are our own — we take no payment for a place in the ranking.

Every venue here is a real, licensed casino you can visit in person, adults-only at the door, and a place to relax first and play second. Figures are approximate and change, so confirm the details with the venue and your hotel before you travel.

Mapleandstakes

Four things make a great casino night.

We stay, we play and we score against the same four measures every time. Read the full method on our Mapleandstakes page.

01

The gaming floor

The size and quality of the tables, the poker, the electronic gaming and the slots — and how the room feels on a busy night.

02

The stay

Whether there are rooms on the property or a good hotel a short walk away, and how easy it is to get from the felt to a bed.

03

Atmosphere & dining

The bar, the restaurant, the sport and the live entertainment — the reasons to make a night of it rather than an hour.

04

Location & value

Where it sits in the city, how easy it is to reach, what is nearby, and whether an evening there is worth the money.

Good to know

Midlands and South casino questions.

Which is the only true casino-hotel in this guide?

Resorts World Birmingham is the one venue here with rooms under the same roof as the casino — its four-star Genting Hotel sits directly above a large gaming floor by the NEC. The other venues are casinos with hotels a short walk or drive away.

Do these casinos have hotels on site?

Only Resorts World Birmingham has rooms on the property. The Grosvenor floors and Genting Star City are city casinos, so for each we point you to the hotels a short walk or drive away.

How old do I have to be to enter?

The venues in this guide operate a strict 21+ door policy. Bring valid photo ID, which is checked at the casino entrance.

Are these online casinos?

No. This is a guide to real, land-based casinos you can visit in person across the Midlands and the South of England. It is not an online casino, and no real-money play takes place on this site.

How do your ratings work?

Each venue is scored out of ten against four measures — the gaming floor, the stay, atmosphere and dining, and location and value. The scores are our editorial opinion; we take no payment for the ranking.
